Our Plan for 2021: A Safe Physical Ride

January 2021

We all entered the 2020 edition of Northern Pass without really knowing what it would hold. But the outpouring of support from our community and your commitment allowed us to continue raising significant funds towards our shared mission of conquering cancer in our lifetime.

In 2021, we plan to ride! We will be in Muskoka and will follow public health guidelines to ensure the health, safety and well-being of our participants and the community we ride in are well taken care of. The Northern Pass team is working hard to ensure we are ready for a safe and fun in-person event on August 7th, 2021, to and celebrate our 5th anniversary. There will also be a virtual option, so everyone can ride where they’re most comfortable.

Safety is our top priority, and we are making plans to keep everyone safe and healthy without compromising the camaraderie and fun of the ride. We have plans in place for a safe Northern Pass environment that will strictly adhere to provincial and municipal COVID-19 guidelines:

  • Food, amenities, and other planned entertainment will take place outdoors with physical distancing measures in place for registration area, kit pick up, tables, and seating areas
  • Hand washing & sanitizing stations, sanitizing sprays and disinfectant wipes, and face masks will be provided at all areas of the event for your use
  • Regular cleaning of all commonly touched areas will be done throughout the day, i.e. washrooms, registration area, aid stations, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Starts will be staged in waves to limit congestion at the start, on the roads, at aid stations, and finishes
  • Waves to consist of 10 riders or less
  • To maximize social distancing at aid stations and at the finish line, we will offer “grab & go” nutrition served by Northern Pass volunteers/staff
  • Routes clearly marked with volunteer support
  • Medical and mechanical support

We will continue to keep you informed with important news and updates regularly through email and social media. Be sure to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and join our Strava Club.

In just four years, Northern Pass has raised over $1 million in support of ground-breaking research, treatment advances, and world-class education at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Though there is still uncertainty surrounding what the new year will bring, what we do know is that this community of riders has continued to rise to the challenge — even virtual ones. 2021 will mark the 5th anniversary of Northern Pass, which brings our very first cohort of five-year riders.

Together, We Will Not Lose Momentum!
